A new
look for
Southbound
Southbound was started in 2017 by two Italian brothers living on KwaZulu-Natal’s North Coast.
The brothers were big into their surfing and craved a niftier way to cruise along the coast in search of beach breaks, without breaking a sweat. They figured there’d be no better way to power their passion for paddling into waves than on a fat tyre e-bike – highly suitable for beach riding.

E-bikes became the brothers’ go-to for getting around and as a means to make a living while doing what they love. The wheels of their new venture were set in motion and the search began for global partners to manufacture robust, versatile and affordable e-bikes for the Southern African market.It wasn’t long before the first Southbound e-bikes were bound for South African shores. The oryx and golfie fat tyre e-bikes were unleashed on the market and were put through their paces on beaches and golf courses across South Africa.
Roll on into 2022. A former CMO of a leading insurer saw the scope for people and businesses to join the electric revolution, and so took over the business from the founders. Today, new and improved models, and a sharper, more focused Southbound brand, offers South Africans from all walks of life a range of best-in-breed fat-tyre e-bikes, world-class after-sales services and a unique, e-bike anywhere experience.
